Rick began his interest in aviation at the age of 15 when he joined the Civil Air Patrol, about the same time he started trekking through the famed High Sierra. After a stint in the US Army, he continued his pursuit of flight certificates and education. Later, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department working various assignments and then transferring to the Air Support Division, serving as pilot and instructor in both rotor and fixed wing aircraft. Later, he worked as a check airman for a helicopter charter company and was a media pilot. Upon retirement from the LAPD, he became an adjunct professor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, teaching and designing safety courses. Along the way, he owned two fun flying machines: a Citabria airplane and Grob 103 glider.
Today, Rick still maintains a passion for aviation and keeps boots-on-the ground, hiking the magnificent Sierra. His other advocations include the study of geology and astronomy.
